About Impossible Puzzles

Artist Alex Beard has always been an avid puzzler.  But, when he realized that standard jigsaw puzzles weren’t holding his interest anymore, he decided to invent one that would.

“As a painter, I use shapes as the building blocks of my work.  The way I place the shapes or combine them in any given painting creates the outcome – and it’s different every time,” says Alex.  “I wondered why the same couldn’t be said for puzzles.  Why do the shapes always have to fit together the same way?  Shouldn’t they be able to be fashioned into anything I want?”

Alex envisioned a puzzle more complex and subjective than any he’d ever put together.  The pieces would not snap into each other, but settle beside one another instead, leading to an infinite number of combinations.  The puzzler would have complete control over whether the final image mirrored the original on the box, or whether it would be an altogether different picture, size and shape.

Voila!  Introducing Alex Beard Impossible PuzzlesTM!  The four colorful puzzles are based on Alex’s original works of art titled Abstract, Audience, Fishery and Menagerie.

While there is actually only one correct piece that combines with its neighbors to assemble the puzzle as intended, all the pieces can be rearranged in countless ways to create new puzzles and new shapes.

Think of each shape as part of a mosaic, or as a shard of stained glass.  Use some or all of the pieces.  Make something abstract, or representational.  For example, the rooster creation on the right was made from the pieces of the Abstract puzzle!
